Before Your Surgery Checklist

It is important for you to follow these guidelines before surgery to prevent any delays or cancellations.
For your convenience Grove Place Surgery Center has partnered with One Medical Passport to ease the admission and preoperative process. Registration is designed to be quick and easy and completing the forms should take you 10-15 minutes. Please have your insurance information handy. The Agency of Healthcare Administration, the government agency for healthcare in the State of Florida, requires is to report certain demographic information.  Among this information is the race and ethnicity of our patients.  Therefore, as part of your medical passport profile, you will be asked to answer these questions.

A Pre-Admission Nurse will contact you the day before your surgery, review special instructions, provide necessary arrival time for your procedure and answer any questions you may have. If you have not received a call by 3:00 p.m. the day before your surgery or have additional questions please contact us at 772-778-3113.

SURGICAL PATIENTS:  PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Arrange transportation home by a responsible adult who you know, they must also be present to review and sign discharge instructions.
  • Arrange a caregiver for the first 24 hours if general anesthesia.
  • Leave money, jewelry, and valuables at home, remove body piercings.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes, you will change into a gown for the procedure.
  • Shower or bathe the night before or morning of, it is okay to brush your teeth.
  • No makeup, lotion, or hair pins.  Nail polish or artificial nail off of one finger for oxygen saturation monitoring. (If you are having an upper extremity procedure, it will need to be off non-operative side.)

Please follow physician instructions for nail polish removal off of operative side/site.

  • If you have been contacted regarding financial obligation, please bring it in the day of surgery or call to pay in advance.
  • Children may bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal with them the day of surgery.
  • A Legal Guardian will need to be present in the building from admission until discharge of the child or minor.
  • DO NOT EAT OR DRINK AFTER 12:00 MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE. THIS INCLUDES WATER.
  •  Infants:  Breast milk 3 hours prior to arrival time.  Formula and liquid feeding preparations 5 hours prior to arrival. (Similac, Isomil, Ensure, Non-human milk.) *Does not include ice cream/pudding/yogurt/ect.*
  • Please take all morning medications with a small sip of water. EXCEPTION, DO NOT TAKE:  Diuretics, blood thinners, supplements, and diabetic oral agents.  *If you are on insulin, please contact your prescribing doctor for further instructions.*
  • Please discontinue your blood thinners as instructed per your physician.  Blood thinners including, but not limited to:  Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, Pradaxa, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Xeralto, and Eliquis.
  • You will be informed of arrival time and any changes to arrival time.

EPIDURAL INJECTION PATIENTS:  PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Please discontinue your blood thinners as instructed per your physician. Blood thinners including, but not limited to:  Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, Pradaxa, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Xeralto, and Eliquis.
  • We recommend having someone for transportation home.
  • You do not have to fast, it is okay to eat and drink on the day of your procedure.
